In an elevator a chance encounter between two men creates an atmosphere which instigates presumptions. A question belying preconceived ideas cultivates these presumptions, which mutate through ignorance into fear during the journey downwards. A man's mind disintegrates. The past explains all.

Promoting a new wave of Black poetry, this anthology comes from a distinctly urban viewpoint. Inspired and influenced by their roots, reggae and hip-hop, the collection is edited by the poet and performer Lemn Sissay.
