South India Reading Groups

 

British Council India promotes Reading Groups/clubs, both physical and virtual (with online chats). It is planned that the British Council libraries in the south of India will have a reader development strategy, with Reading Groups in the library as well as facilitating book clubs in school.

British Council Delhi Reading Group

Themes:New Writing 12, Booker, Orange Prize, Commonwealth Prize, South Asian women writers (for adults); and the Magic Pencil texts for children.

Participants:Adults in one club; children in another

 

Reading Groups are being developed for English language students and readers. There will be two meetings per month.

Kolkata British Council Reading Group

Themes:Summer Reading Challenge; Focus on Author workshops; Magic Pencil

Participants:Young Learners 7 - 11 year olds

 

We have young learners (7-11 year olds) reading groups who meet once a month. They regularly take part in our monthly Young Learners activities (for instance, ‘Focus on Author’ workshops in which they have discussed Michael Morpurgo, Allan Ahlberg). Members from this group have recently taken part in storytelling, writing and cartooning workshops organised around the Magic Pencil exhibition.
